A blissed-out indie pop world is where you’ll find KARLOU (Karrie Hayward). Weaving pop melodies of ripening into adulthood and the highs and lows of everyday life. Originally from North Queensland, KARLOU’s musical journey really started to glow once she landed in the Sunshine Coast in 2019 and started writing songs in her bedroom. Artists like MAY-A, Girl in Red, LAUV, and Ruel were all early influences as her own distinct style started to take shape.
Swiftly evolving from that safe space, to performing live and unleashing her energetic charisma on stage. Expelling notions of memorable hooks and dynamic grooves, she has gone on to support the likes of The Rubens, Sycco, Hope D and many more.
Mid 2021 KARLOU released her single ‘Lovesick’ and it premiered on Triple J Unearthed and as well across many community radio stations. During the year she played the Caloundra Music Festival sharing the bill with artists such as Bootleg Rascal, Ball Park Music and Thelma Plum.
Returning to the studio at the end of last year, KARLOU worked with Brisbane producer Riley Smith (IVEY) on her latest single ‘Bitter’, set to release later this year. Rhythmic, hooky and irreverent, ‘Bitter’ tells the story of heartbreak and incoherent relationships.
